The Resistance Recess has only been underway for a couple of days and it might be fair to say its working a little too well because most Republicans are just skipping in-person events to avoid having to answer tough questions. Instead, many of them are opting for more controlled events on Facebook Live or ‘tele-townhalls’. These events allow press secretaries to screen questions ahead of time and limit follow-up questions.
Republicans control 247 seats in the House of Representatives and 54 seats in the Senate and so far only 19 Republican members of Congress have scheduled traditional town halls over the week-long recess. Thats an embarrassing ratio and represents a forfeit of one of the lawmakers most basic duties.
